About Me

I’m just a mid-twentysomething woman living on Long Island, NY and back in school again. I just really started getting into the whole vintage look, and am recording my journey throughout the learning process so maybe I can help some other people who want to get into this too. It all started out when I visited Las Vegas again in early October of 2011 and going to the Bettie Page store at the Miracle Mile shops. Then the deal was sealed! I dove in head first and there is no turning back 🙂

Me before going vintage/rockabilly

I love all types of music, including (yes) vintage music from the ’30s, ’40s, and ’50s. I could go from listening to some Glenn Miller to hearing Kanye & Jay Z in a heart beat. I write my own songs and sing as well, and I have often been told I sound like Lady Gaga, Adele, Faith Hill, and Linda Ronstadt.

I am a just married gal as of 15 February 2014 to my amazing husband Alex. I am working on getting through medical school soon (hopefully!), and I want to become an orthopaedic surgeon. I went to Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ and majored in history as well as pre-medicine. I was also in the U.S. Marine Corps.

My two most influential vintage ladies are Marilyn Monroe (loved her since I was 8! I have a tattoo of her as well 🙂 ), and Rita Hayworth (loved her since I was about 10 or 11), and they inspire my style and my life every day!

Favourite Colour: Deep blood red

Height: 5’11”

Heritage: 75% Dutch, 10% English, 10% Swiss, & 5% Scottish

You’ll probably catch me wearing: A vintage or vintage inspired dress. Dresses are more comfortable to me than pants!

Who I am closest to: My Mom, hands down.

Pets: I have a long haired chihuahua with one blue and one brown eye named Trixie who has been my little fur baby since 2005, and I have a black cat named Dahlia who is 2 years old as of April 2014, and a grey/white tuxedo kitten named Gus (after the Breaking Bad character!) who is 7 months as of that time as well. We also expanded the family with our first tabby named Blankie (I call her Nuggie) who is a year and a half as of April 2016. We also adopted another tabby named Tara (nicknamed New Girl – because she’s the newest addition 😉) who is a year as of May 2016. We have two puppies, named Toto and Waffles. Toto is 9 years old Chihuahua as of 2016, and she is a former dog fighting ring bait dog, and as a result has a missing part of her jaw, ripped up ears, and eye issues. But she loves kisses from her mama! Waffles is a one year old Shichi as of April 2016. He’s a bit of an attention whore but he’s so cute you ignore it 😉

Favourite Shows: Real Time with Bill Maher, Golden Girls, Law & Order: SVU, The Voice, and others I am probably forgetting.

Favourite Vintage Activities: Reading anything history related – especially from 1920 to around 1969, thrifting, shopping on Etsy or eBay, going to vintage fairs or flea markets, watching Old Hollywood movies, recreating vintage hair and makeup looks, reading Vintage Life magazine, modeling, sourcing clothing, and much more.

Non Vintage Related Hobbies: Singing, songwriting, medicine, orthopaedics, reading, running, keeping up with current events, working out, traveling, spending time with friends, cooking, and much more.

Don’t know if I’m contacting the right person. I just sold Holly Brolsma a Rago cincher on eBay. Is that you? So glad that you’ve discoved the “vintage” look! The reason i’m contacting you is to turn you on to one of my favorite recording artists. If you’re not already familiar with Imelda May… you need to be!! She sings everything from rockabilly to swing and does it better than anyone else. She also has a look and fashion style that I know you will love. I would suggest getting these two CD’s…. Mayhem (her latest CD) and also Jeff Beck’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Party Honoring Les Paul (available both in CD and DVD). She teamed up with Jeff Back for this tribute and it’s amazing.

    Check her out on YouTube:

Enjoy and let me know how yoyu like her!

    • Oh Imelda is amazing! Absolutely adore her 🙂 I just got into J.D. McPherson too, I don’t know if you are familiar with his work or not yet. I am a singer/songwriter myself as well, so I appreciate good talent immensely!

And yes, you contacted the right person 🙂 Thank you so much for the Rago cincher – I saw it this morning and refused to let anyone else have it! LOL. I look forward to receiving it – thank you so much!

So glad I came across your blog – you have a lot of great tips on here!

Bettie Page was definitely an inspiration to a lot of women, and of course the other two icons you mention Ms Monroe and Hayworth. My two faves are Jean Arthur and Carol Lombard but for the ‘look’ and persona it would be Heddy Lamar and Gina Lollobrigida – but so many of the ladies from those decades had such an impact and continue to inspire so many. The guys of the time too with some very notable ones but the women no doubt were shooting stars with immense magnetism.

    Kind regards 🙂

    • Thank you so much for your support! I appreciate the comments – it makes me smile and keeps me going 🙂 And I agree with you about favourite icons – it is almost impossible to choose just a few, as there are just too many iconic and legendary people to narrow down to just a couple! Such an amazing time it was back then, filled with amazing people 🙂

Hi! Just wanted to drop you a line & say I loved the post about eyebrows & you like about “modern monotony”. I think I am DEFINITLY borrowing this phrase (I’ll link back to you of course). Have a great day!
