A Family Wedding

About two weeks ago, my husband and I went to his cousin’s wedding, and the reception was held at a gorgeous country club on Long Island. I wanted to look the part, so I found my dress first, and then built my outfit around that.

My dress is the Gia dress from Pin Up Girl Clothing. It’s such a decadent and sexy dress, I had to have it! With a 1930s look, I decided to build my whole look around it. I wanted to go for a 1930s Art Deco vamp. It has a good amount of stretch but also is sturdy enough to hold and shape everything. I felt like a goddess for sure!

My clutch and earrings are gloriously glamorous – both from Pink Collar Life’s shop. Full disclosure though: if you visit their shop, you will want to buy everything they have! I have purchased about five separate occasions, and I have everything from clutches, hair barrettes, combs, headbands, jewelry, turbans and much more from them. All of their products are high quality and fabulous! For the wedding, I bought their Stardust clutch and Art Deco Fan earrings, shown below.

img_2222
Aren’t they stunning?! I received so many compliments on them that I honestly couldn’t keep track. They will be coming to Viva with me in a few weeks as well!

What makeup did I wear, you say? Well, I wore Velour Lashes mink falsies in Winging It, shown below. I wore several ColourPop shadows, and I used the Kat Von D Shade + Light contour kit as well as NARS blush in Orgasm. My brows are using Brow Definer in Dark Brown from Anastasia of Beverly Hills. My lippie is OCC Lip Tar in Black Dahlia.

I loved my look for the night! I achieved curl in my hair via a wet set using Rockin’ Rollers (the same exact thing using a different name can be found in CVS) and Lottabody. I did not get to brush out as much as I wanted because after just having major wrist surgery, my wrist was not up to the task!

During the reception, a photographer was on standby taking pictures of guests and putting them into frames. Of course I dragged my husband to take a snap, and well…

VIVA! Part One

Hi dolls! I apologize for the lack of posting recently, but my health has been at the forefront or things and I am now slated to have another shoulder surgery this Friday – this time on the opposite shoulder. I have a torn labrum and a fracture of the humeral head (the part of your upper arm bone that goes into your shoulder). So, I am going in for my sixth time getting cut open. Hence the radio silence! But I wanted to make a few posts whilst I still had both my arms and hands available to do so 😉

Although it has been several months, I have quite a stockpile of great photos and videos from Viva that I am sure no one will mind seeing or re-visiting if you had the wonderful opportunity to attend. This was the last Viva held on Easter weekend – hereafter, Viva will be held near Easter weekend, but not directly during it. I am sure that means numbers of those attending will skyrocket!

IMG_0112

One of my first stops was the Charles Phoenix show. Ever since I randomly decided to attend his show last year, I loved it and had to go back. It’s always pretty packed in the showroom because many others think so too! He was his usual zany self, in his crazy wardrobe, with his awesome shots.

Check out a little video I took below of his show:

Next up was the Burlesque Showcase, one of my favorites to attend at Viva.

IMG_0141

First was Audrey Deluxe, the organizer of all of the burlesque events at Viva. She always has such cute routines!

IMG_0149

IMG_0152

Tara MiSioux was next up, and she is one of my favorites. She always has classy, vintage-styled routines set to jazz-y music.

IMG_0179

IMG_0192

Kitten & Lou were next, and they had such a cute and kitschy routine!

One of my absolute favorites, Roxi D’Lite, was up next. She has such amazing dancing and acrobatic skills, and she is gorgeous!

IMG_0226

The fabulous Ms. Perle Noire followed Roxi. She is known for her energy and spunk and did not disappoint in that!

One of the last acts was one that I had anticipated the most, as I am an avid follower of Lou Lou D’Vil on Instagram and Facebook and I think she is super talented (not to mention beyond beautiful!). She is from Finland and her acts are always fierce and on point!

Warning: NSFW Content (pastie falls off)

“But what did you wear?!” You ask? Well…

During the day I wore an amazingly detailed vintage Mexican-style dress from the 1950s, complete with beautiful embroidery and gorgeous lace inlays. Very light and flowy! At night I wore the Tatyana Gold Digger dress, one of my favourite “night out” dresses for sure. Just look at it – it screams “vintage glam”!
Stay tuned for the next Viva post, along with my excursion to California for some Old Hollywood quality time!

Major Makeup Haul!

image1

Hi dolls! Today I just had to share about my huge makeup haul over the past week – I am just too excited, I can’t contain it anymore 😛 I’ve been to Sephora, MAC, bought makeup online, had a friend send me some makeup – and I can’t wait to try it all. I have been thinking about YouTube videos to show the makeup is, how I apply it, an tips and tricks – what do you all think? Let me know in the comments or by liking this post!

Let’s get started!

IMG_0057

This is a good chunk of my haul from Sephora and MAC. I had gone in looking for the new Too Faced Semi-Sweet Chocolate Bar (I have the original and LOVE it to death!), and I ended up walking out with $300 in damage. I bought the Kat Von D Ink! Liner, more of the Smashbox Photo Finish Primer, and more of the Urban Decay Primer Potion, which I swear by for an eyeshadow base. I also got a few more things, including an old favorite Armani Code perfume, which I have not had in years but love dearly – one of my favorite scents! I also went to MAC and got some more of my Studio Sculpt foundation, as well as a limited edition lip liner in this gorgeous rose color, as well as some $10 lipglass and white pigment. The Better Than Sex Mascara from Too Faced looks very promising, as I have been looking for a good mascara, and most just don’t cut it. I like to have LASHES, not just meh lashes. I love drama, but only in my lashes 😉 I tried the Benefit They’re Real Mascara, but it didn’t seem so great to me, despite people raving about it. I hope this Better Than Sex stuff satisfies me (see what I did there?).

IMG_0053

I absolutely adore Anastasia of Beverly Hills. I love everything they put out. If they make it, I will buy it. I have her contour palette and Dipbrow Pomade, and I am in love. So, it figures I would acquire more. I bought a different shade of the Dipbrow, since I’ve been thinking the Ebony may be a little too harsh for me, so I went with Ash Brown. I also bought her Brow Wiz in Dark Brown, and I intend to use the both to make a perfectly balanced and perfectly matching look. I want normal eyebrows, not Joan Crawford brows. AVOID! I also got the new (and glorious!) liquid lipsticks in Pure Hollywood and Sad Girl – I am currently waiting on Retro Coral to arrive 🙂 I have gotten more into darker colors and unique colors, so I had to get the Sad Girl, which is a gorgeous red-plum shade with shimmer! Shimmer is so hard to find in liquid lipsticks, and this one looks amazing.

IMG_0058

Up next are some little random lovelies I can’t wait to try. I have heard wonderful things about the Orgasm blush from Nars, so I had to go for it. I went with a cream blush, since I much prefer that over powder (way more natural). As much as I absolutely adore my Besame Crimson Cream Rouge, it’s all I have used for three years (and still on the same pan!) and I feel like branching out a bit. The Orgasm blush looks amazing on all skin types an offers the perfect red-pink color, so I went for it. I have also gotten super into MAC pigments, as well as more red and copper shades for my eyes, so I bought the Heritage Rouge and Copper pigments. For highlighting the inside of my eyes near my tear ducts, I bought the white pigment at MAC for $10, as it’s in a small size. But with these pigments, a little goes a LONG way! Definitely don’t treat them as normal shadows, or you will look like Tammy Faye Baker. Again, AVOID! And in my search for different lip colors, I found Lime Crime’s Chinchilla lipstick, which I picked up for $10 on a clearance from Pin Up Girl Clothing when I was finally able to pick up their black stretch capri pants when they returned back in stock (Whee!). This color is a grey lilac, which I love. I can’t wait to try it!

IMG_0051

Next up are some products from Le Keux cosmetics, along with an accompanying lip brush. A friend bought and sent me these straight from London, as I have always wanted to try them. Peachy Keen lip paint is a gorgeous peach shade that is perfect for day, and especially for the upcoming spring and summer months (hurry up!). Whistle Bait is a highly pigmented sexy red shade that is perfect for nights out, or when you just want some extra zazz in your look. Black Cadillac is a gel eyeliner that I have been wanting to try – I am just waiting on the damn liner brush to arrive! 😛 I love Le Keux’s brushes – double ended for awesome convenience!

Also, have you noticed my pictures have gone up in quality? Well, the husband treated me to a new Canon Rebel T5 camera! It takes amazing shots, ad I cannot wait to take more to share with you. I know the camera phone shots were just not cutting it and did not look professional, and I am wanting to really make this blog the best it can be – I decided to start with the pictures, thanks to my awesome hubby 🙂

What do you all think of my giant makeup haul? I can’t wait to try it all and work it into my everyday (and even not-so-everyday) looks! Would you like to see YouTube videos? Let me know below!

Recent Acquisitions

Over the past few weeks, this girl has been acquiring some new goodies! Sometimes to the husband’s dismay, but you know – for work, fall, posterity 😛

I wanted to share some of the greatness I have gotten, because I have just been too excited about everything.  I got some basic needs like a black pencil skirt and basic tops, but I wanted to share some of the stars I have acquired because the girl just can’t help it! 🙂

40s rust dress

1940s Rust Colour Lace Detail Dress

As soon as I saw this, I knew I had to have it.  Isn’t it just perfect for fall with that colouring? It is the most divine rust colour, with slightly lighter lace detail at the bust pockets.  Authentic vintage in my size for $45? Yes ma’am!

blouses

Vintage 1950s Dead Stock Blouses

When I saw these, I envisioned them with jeans, a nice circle skirt – anything!  I love the subtle-yet-intricate details that both blouses have, as well as the soft colours that know no bounds of season.  Perfect basics that aren’t-so-basic that can take me from work to anywhere else without too much effort.  And who doesn’t love that?

fall bracelet

Vintage 1940s Lucite Bracelet

I saw this and had to nab it.  The colours are utterly fall and will match with a lot of my wardrobe.  The rich yellow, orange, brown, and green complement each other so well and make me instantly think of fall when the leaves are at their most vibrant and spectacular colouring. And for $10, too 😉

kitsch kitten bookends

1950s Kitsch Kitten Bookends

Anyone who knows me knows I love some good midcentury kitsch – I’m already amassing quite a collection, and always itching for more!  As soon as I saw these cuties, I had to have them – and now I do!  They are lovingly hugging some vintage pulp fiction novels I have on my vintage shelf in our bedroom.  And they are just bloody adorable.  The one thing that wasn’t adorable?  The seller I received them from using the name on the return address portion as “Mr. Big”.  Ehhhh…

lux de ville blue

Lux de Ville Blue Anchor Bag

I could not resist the colour of this bag.  I absolutely adore Lux and all of Yvette’s designs – I have about 5 or 6 of their bags now, and I’m always lusting for more 🙂  Oh, and something else pretty cool?  I accidentally got my nails done the same colour as my bag last week:

bagnails

Tee hee hee 😛

Naturalizer heels

Naturalizer Vintage Inspired Pumps

I’ve been on a shoe binge lately, I will be the first to admit.  I feel like I am perpetually lacking in the show department, even in basics.  So, when I saw these beauties, I had to nab them.  They are a good brand, and the leather is as soft as a baby’s behind.  They are basic but yet not-so-basic – which is perfect and ever so versatile.

remix black

Black Remix Vintage Inspired Wedges

Anyone who is anyone in the vintage, pinup, or rockabilly scene knows of Remix.  I’ve lusted after them for quite a while now (along with Miss L Fire!), so when I found not one, but TWO pairs of Remix shoes for under $30 each (when they retail for well over $100 each), I was nearing peeing myself.  I had to, I just had to.  I got these little lovely black wedges along with this gorgeous chartreuse pair as well:

remix green

I love them!  Unfortunately, one of the back straps broke on the black pair, but I can reconfigure them to take out the back straps and just make them a slip-in sandal.  Problem solved! 🙂

sweater clip

1950s NOS Flamingo Sweater Clip

I have always wanted a sweater clip/holder, but have never really found one that “spoke” to me, so I never indulged.  I happened to randomly search for sweater clips on eBay, and I came across this beauty!  I love flamingos, they have such a broad appeal across the vintage and rockabilly scenes alike.  And this being NOS sealed the deal for me.  I love pre-loved vintage dresses, but for some reason little items like this I get excited about being new and I can’t believe how it made it this long without being loved by someone!  I had to give it a loving home…so I did 😀

TTL Dress

Vintage Reproduction 1950s Tie Shoulder Swing Dress

I bought this off of a Facebook group that specifically caters to vintage for ladies over a size US 14.  This was hand made by a member of the group who makes FABULOUS dresses by the name of Tatted Tina Lopez.  The quality of her work is simply amazing, I must say!  I instantly fell in love with this dress from the tie shoulder straps to the way the print just screams mid century modern – I had to have it in my life! Can you honestly blame me? 😉

What goodies have you recently purchased?  Anything you want to share?  Do you get as excited as I do, or am I alone here? 😛

Viva Las Vegas 17: Part One

Hello everyone!

I had the great pleasure of going to Viva Las Vegas 17 this year, and it was a blast! I was by myself most of the time, except for Friday night into Saturday I got to spend with my bestie and maid of honour Nicole 🙂

I arrived on Thursday afternoon, checked in to my hotel, and immediately got to work. I zipped from the Gold Coast over to the Orleans via shuttle bus. The excitement was building with each second I spent on that bus, and when it pulled in front of the Orleans, I walked in and immediately took in that uniquely sweet smell that only Viva seems to provide.

Let the fun begin!

20140425-190906.jpg

It was great to see everyone there, decked out in their rockabilly and vintage best! I felt so exhilarated being back, it was surreal.

I checked out the vendors, who were out in full force with their amazing wares! I managed to nab a Steady pencil skirt in a gorgeous soft pale yellow that has legs, eyes, and all sorts of silly random prints on it. I also nabbed my usual VLV shirt, as well as the VLV grocery bag. After making the rounds with the vendors, I somehow managed to stay up until 11 PM (2 AM Eastern!) to see the amazing Kim Lenz. I am glad I told myself “NO!” and forced myself to rally against what my own body was telling me, because she was fab!

The next day, Friday, I got up “early” to make sure I could nab some tickets for Nicole and me for the burlesque showcase. Yes, I am a girl, and I love burlesque. It is so much fun and there are so many women from different walks of life that are all there to celebrate their bodies and just have an awesome time. Who wouldn’t love that?! I managed to nab great seats on the left side of the stage four rows back. I couldn’t wait!

Next was a meet up I had with some girls from a Facebook group of plus sized ladies so that we can sell our clothing and it is catered to our sizing. We met in one of the girl’s hotel rooms at the Orleans, and I started to lay out the approximately 12 items I brought. I labelled them, talked with some fellow members, and shopped a bit. But only 35 minutes later, we were kicked out by Orleans security. It was a whole debacle and shocked the hell out of all of us. We left there upset and concerned. It was all very unfortunate 😦

After that, I tried to find something else to fill my time until my friend Nicole arrived. It was 3:35 PM. The Charles Phoenix slideshow had started 5 minutes ago! I ran over to the showroom and was able to nab a seat. I had never seen him before, but he came as highly recommended by a fellow rockabilly friend in NYC, Lucirene. And guess what? He was hysterical, interesting, and entertaining 🙂

20140425-195355.jpg

I just knew I had to make Sunday’s slideshow too!

My friend Nicole made it around 6 PM, so we hung out in the hotel room while we got ready. Even just hanging out getting ready is fun with Nicole 🙂

We made it to the burlesque showcase at 9 PM. There was a wide array of amazing acts like Roxi D’Lite, Angie Pontani, Cleo Viper, and who I was most excited about: Dirty Martini. I couldn’t wait!

20140425-200834.jpg

Roxi D’Lite was one of the first, and possibly one of the best performers of the night. Her racy S&M performance was certainly a stand out!

Gal Friday and Peekaboo Pointe had such a cute “fight” routine!

Angie Pontani had a very elegant, very beautiful ballet routine. It was rather ethereal!

Cleo Viper had a truly vamp routine, it was badass. And my goodness is she stunning!

20140425-234432.jpg

20140425-234501.jpg

And last but not least: the amazing and incomparable Dirty Martini!

All the ladies came out for one last bow, to a round of deafening applause. It was a great way to put the top on the Friday that was at Viva Las Vegas 17!

20140425-234851.jpg

And no, we didn’t finish the night there: we had some drinks, gambled a little, watched some fabulous jive/stroll/swing dancing, and made fun of things such as this:

20140425-235254.jpg

I’ll leave you to analyze this for today 😉

Viva Las Vegas 17: Part Two coming tomorrow!

My MAC and Sephora Makeup Haul

This past weekend I was itching for a retail fix, so the hubby and I hit up the mall at Roosevelt Field to scratch it. I am normally not a mall person, because I can never find clothes in my style anywhere. Only online and vintage shops for this girl! But there are two places I can never shy away from: MAC and Sephora 🙂

20140303-212847.jpg

I saw this on Sephora’s website, and when I saw this I just had to have it! I am on a super skin kick lately, especially with the dryness of winter really getting to my skin as of late, and I have been on a BOLO for some good TLC for my skin. I didn’t want to dive in head first with something that I wasn’t sure about it working with my skin. I am not willing to be cheap on my skin care, either. So, what’s a girl to do? Sephora must have known my plight and created this kit just for me! I tried the Kate Somerville exfoliator so far, and I love it! I can’t wait to see what the other products do for me.

20140303-213936.jpg

Anyone who knows me personally knows how much of a stickler I am for a stippler. That would be a stippling brush to apply foundation 😉 Have you ever wanted to not worry so much about having a super exact match in foundation as well as being able to achieve a flawless, airbrushed finish? Well honey, run out NOW and grab yourself a stippling brush! Your foundation will also last you way longer because you are using way less but still achieving the same look! I have had the same stippling brush for nearly two years, so I know I was way overdue for a new one. Sephora has great brushes so it was a worthwhile investment.

I also nabbed myself an Urban Decay Eye Primer Potion, which I have heard nothing but rave reviews about. I’ve been wanting to try it for a long time. I have been using Too Faced’s Shadow Insurance, which hasn’t been bad for me, but I’m sure there is better out there. We shall see what UD can do!

And this last Sephora buy – I can’t believe I nabbed this. I’m in awe and so happy I was able to grab it. It’s Anastasia Beverly Hills’ DipBrow Pomade! I have heard nothing but crazy amazing testimonials about how amazing this stuff is. I can NOT wait to try it! If you would like to see how it looks after I try it for the first time, along with my other looks and life musings, follow me on Instagram at “RockSteadyUSMC”.

20140303-220051.jpg

Now on to MAC! I have been buying more and more of their products, and am even starting to consider applying to MAC as an artist. I have a few friends who are MAC MUAs, and I love the work they do – I would love to be a part of the elite! 🙂 Certainly more fun and I could be as crazy looking as I like – lavender hair, tattoos, pinup clothes and all! 🙂

I recently bought two shades or their Studio Sculpt foundation – one for contouring, the other as my all over foundation. I love it! So when I ran out of my undereye concealer, MAC was the natural way to go 😉 The girl there (with awesome bright pink hair, BTW) helped me pick my shade (NW 20) and it is fabulous! I also picked up Viva Glam VI Lipglass, a colour I had gotten a few times way back in high school and loved as an everyday and work shade.

20140303-220937.jpg

As some of you may be well aware, I am a bit of a lipgloss and lipstick addict. And you may also know that I have been a fan of Bomber Betty Cosmetics for nearly two years already (my how time flies!). I am a huge fan of Jessica’s Brow Wow as well as all of her lip products – especially her glosses! Every few months I find myself craving some new shades that she whips up. I restocked on My Favourite Me by my friend Cherry Dollface, as well as a nice pink shade called Southern Belle. They’re both fab and I can’t wait to wear them more!

Coming Soon! – I will be having a review and “show and tell” of the Revlon Legacy limited edition lipsticks that just were released. I lucked out and managed to nab “Icy Violet” (1946) and “Snow Peach” (1956). I will prepare a post just for all of you!

CONTEST SOON! – Who is interested in a $20 PayPal gift card?! Well, you’re in luck, because I will have a post soon with all the details to enter. Stay tuned, dolls! 😀

The Wedding!

So it happened – I am a married woman, a wifey! I remember a few years back saying to my mom, “I’m never going to get married, that’s not my thing”…but here I am, now a Mrs. And it feels pretty good! 🙂

Now I know y’all want pictures, so here they are – all have been taken by the AMAZING Jodie King of Jodie King Photography. I could never have imagined anyone else taking my wedding pictures. And she did not disappoint, as usual!

So what do y’all think?! We had a great time and everyone got along swimmingly. None of us wanted to leave because we were drinking, dancing, and having a ton of laughs. My girl Nicole (in the red dress) flew all the way out from California to be my maid of honour – it wouldn’t have been the same without her or Jodie there, they are the best! Alex’s dad was the best man and my mom walked me down the aisle. We had a small wedding with only 11 people, but it was great 🙂

We are having a bigger party this Sunday, and my girl Jodie will be there taking more pictures. And you’d better believe I will be posting pictures of that as well 🙂
