Recent Acquisitions

Over the past few weeks, this girl has been acquiring some new goodies! Sometimes to the husband’s dismay, but you know – for work, fall, posterity 😛

I wanted to share some of the greatness I have gotten, because I have just been too excited about everything.  I got some basic needs like a black pencil skirt and basic tops, but I wanted to share some of the stars I have acquired because the girl just can’t help it! 🙂

40s rust dress

1940s Rust Colour Lace Detail Dress

As soon as I saw this, I knew I had to have it.  Isn’t it just perfect for fall with that colouring? It is the most divine rust colour, with slightly lighter lace detail at the bust pockets.  Authentic vintage in my size for $45? Yes ma’am!

blouses

Vintage 1950s Dead Stock Blouses

When I saw these, I envisioned them with jeans, a nice circle skirt – anything!  I love the subtle-yet-intricate details that both blouses have, as well as the soft colours that know no bounds of season.  Perfect basics that aren’t-so-basic that can take me from work to anywhere else without too much effort.  And who doesn’t love that?

fall bracelet

Vintage 1940s Lucite Bracelet

I saw this and had to nab it.  The colours are utterly fall and will match with a lot of my wardrobe.  The rich yellow, orange, brown, and green complement each other so well and make me instantly think of fall when the leaves are at their most vibrant and spectacular colouring. And for $10, too 😉

kitsch kitten bookends

1950s Kitsch Kitten Bookends

Anyone who knows me knows I love some good midcentury kitsch – I’m already amassing quite a collection, and always itching for more!  As soon as I saw these cuties, I had to have them – and now I do!  They are lovingly hugging some vintage pulp fiction novels I have on my vintage shelf in our bedroom.  And they are just bloody adorable.  The one thing that wasn’t adorable?  The seller I received them from using the name on the return address portion as “Mr. Big”.  Ehhhh…

lux de ville blue

Lux de Ville Blue Anchor Bag

I could not resist the colour of this bag.  I absolutely adore Lux and all of Yvette’s designs – I have about 5 or 6 of their bags now, and I’m always lusting for more 🙂  Oh, and something else pretty cool?  I accidentally got my nails done the same colour as my bag last week:

bagnails

Tee hee hee 😛

Naturalizer heels

Naturalizer Vintage Inspired Pumps

I’ve been on a shoe binge lately, I will be the first to admit.  I feel like I am perpetually lacking in the show department, even in basics.  So, when I saw these beauties, I had to nab them.  They are a good brand, and the leather is as soft as a baby’s behind.  They are basic but yet not-so-basic – which is perfect and ever so versatile.

remix black

Black Remix Vintage Inspired Wedges

Anyone who is anyone in the vintage, pinup, or rockabilly scene knows of Remix.  I’ve lusted after them for quite a while now (along with Miss L Fire!), so when I found not one, but TWO pairs of Remix shoes for under $30 each (when they retail for well over $100 each), I was nearing peeing myself.  I had to, I just had to.  I got these little lovely black wedges along with this gorgeous chartreuse pair as well:

remix green

I love them!  Unfortunately, one of the back straps broke on the black pair, but I can reconfigure them to take out the back straps and just make them a slip-in sandal.  Problem solved! 🙂

sweater clip

1950s NOS Flamingo Sweater Clip

I have always wanted a sweater clip/holder, but have never really found one that “spoke” to me, so I never indulged.  I happened to randomly search for sweater clips on eBay, and I came across this beauty!  I love flamingos, they have such a broad appeal across the vintage and rockabilly scenes alike.  And this being NOS sealed the deal for me.  I love pre-loved vintage dresses, but for some reason little items like this I get excited about being new and I can’t believe how it made it this long without being loved by someone!  I had to give it a loving home…so I did 😀

TTL Dress

Vintage Reproduction 1950s Tie Shoulder Swing Dress

I bought this off of a Facebook group that specifically caters to vintage for ladies over a size US 14.  This was hand made by a member of the group who makes FABULOUS dresses by the name of Tatted Tina Lopez.  The quality of her work is simply amazing, I must say!  I instantly fell in love with this dress from the tie shoulder straps to the way the print just screams mid century modern – I had to have it in my life! Can you honestly blame me? 😉

What goodies have you recently purchased?  Anything you want to share?  Do you get as excited as I do, or am I alone here? 😛

I’m a Vintage Girl, in a Corporate World

20140510-104829.jpg

This week I started a new job as an executive assistant at a rather large and successful healthcare management company. I am one of two executive assistants for the president and vice president of the company. I am enjoying it so far, and I get along with my coworker swimmingly. I hope to keep it that way! 🙂

20140510-110019.jpg

Because of this new position, I have to dress much more conservatively than any other job I have held previously. This means covering up my tattoos on my chest and arms, wearing “appropriate” makeup, having proper hair (no hair flowers!), and nothing too crazy or flashy.

“But my style demands showing off my tattoos and being flashy! Whatever shall I do?” I asked myself. I really wasn’t sure what to do about my new and sudden requirement for a change in wardrobe. I understood it, and honestly with a coworker I actually like being around so far and makes work bearable I’m willing to deal with it. I also want to keep my vintage style, however. I still want to be the vintage/pinup girl in the office if I have to not be the rockabilly side of me, at least.

I checked my wardrobe – nothing seemed to fit the bill. Too low cut (I have to practically wear turtlenecks to cover my chest tattoos!), needs longer sleeves, the print is too crazy, the skirt is too short. Whatever was I to do?

GO SHOPPING!

Yes, that was it. I need to go shopping. I need to find elements of my style that fit in with my new need for a conservative corporate wardrobe. And if any of you know me, you know I turn to the interwebs first for shopping. I rarely shop for clothes “outside” anymore, as I can never seem to find my style or anything that’s my size if I do.

My first stop? ModCloth!

20140510-110836.jpg

On the very first page I saw this little number – the Coach Tour Dress! It has a high cowl neck collar so I can hide my tattoos, and despite it being sleeveless that can easily be remedied by wearing a cardi 🙂 And only $50? Yes, please!

20140510-111331.jpg

Next is the Greeting Postcard Dress for $95. I kept scrolling in dresses because that’s what I mostly intend to wear (a vintage girl’s staple ensemble!), and I thought this was beyond adorable. I know the neckline is a little low (yes my tattoos are that high), but I can easily remedy that with buying some Cami Secrets to attach underneath and voilà – good to go! I never thought I would ever need Cami Secrets in my life though! LOL.

20140510-112356.jpg

This California Sunset Dress hits all the right notes for me – nice bright print, cute collar, high neckline – and an affordable $90! And as you can tell, I think florals will be a big part of my attire 😉

20140510-112959.jpg

Yes. Yes yes yes yes. I will certainly be adding this Dance Floor Date Dress to my wardrobe! I love the 40s/50s flair of it and y’all know I love me some red. And only $60? You don’t have to ask me twice!

20140510-113739.jpg

This Beach Home Office Top had me at hello. It just screams 1950s, right? And that collar will cover up my chest tattoos perfectly 🙂 Only $45! Worth every penny!

20140510-114258.jpg

This Modern Madeline Top is just entirely too cute. I love the blue colour and it should cover my tattoos. $40, you say? Sure!

20140510-115000.jpg

This is the Partake in Peppermint Skirt for $70. I love the stripes, and I absolutely adore the now accent at the waist. Perfection!

20140510-115512.jpg

This Binnacle of Excellence Skirt has red and blue anchors on it! I need this! It’s entirely too perfect for me. There will be $60 gone from my paycheck for this.

Okay, I think ModCloth consumed too much of my time. But they seem to have such lovely work appropriate and vintage inspired pieces!

20140510-120322.jpg

The Erika Dress from Pinup Girl Clothing is necessary, I think. So cute and it should cover most everything if I wear the Cami Secret 🙂 $120.

20140510-120718.jpg

I absolutely adore the colouring of the Birdie Dress from PUG with its rich mustard and gorgeous purple pairing. And very affordable at $118!

20140510-121203.jpg

This Monique Dress for $92 is amazing. To me it keeps the style I love but looks completely professional at the same time. I would just need to throw a black cardigan over it to cover my arm tattoos and I would be ready to go!

20140510-121457.jpg

OMG this Summertime Polo Top is just so freaking cute – I need this in my life! I’m going to have to have PUG take my $72 ASAP. I can’t not have this and be okay with it.

20140510-121925.jpg

These 1940s Style Swing Trousers from Heyday are based on actual vintage patterns and come as close to the real thing as possible. They have so many colours, too! Of course I will need the basics like grey, black, et cetera – but you know I am getting them in red, pea green, blue, and more as well! Gotta still retain some personality at work, oui? 😉

I am just embracing the reason to shop and buy new clothes for the job. I figure it’s worth it if I have a decent work environment and I make good money to find my vintage tendencies and go on trips and get more tattoos and more and more!

Do any of you have conservative corporate jobs? How do you retain your style at work?

Viva Las Vegas 17: Part Two

And so we start on part two! Let’s get right down to business, shall we?

Saturday was the car show. It is THE day of all of Viva. The men and women don their best day garb, their best hairdos, and their best poses (as well as parasols!) for the day of vendors, cars, and shows.

After my friend Nicole left back to California, I made my way to the car show. I followed the flock to just outside the Orleans Arena. As soon as I walked in, the fun began!

The vendors were all over as soon as you walked in. There was Pin Up Girl Clothing, Steady, Bomber Betty, Miss L Fire, Secrets in Lace, and various independent sellers. I walked around for at least an hour before I managed to see everything. I wanted to buy it all! But I made my go around again for actual purchases and I nabbed this beautiful purse:

20140426-205817.jpg

I scooped up these gorgeous NOS bakelite earrings – 3 for $50!

20140426-205909.jpg

I picked up some Viva playing cards (I had to!), and a tube of the amazing Bomber Betty lip gloss that Cherry Dollface came out with. And guess who I got to meet?!

20140426-210143.jpg

She is SO sweet and you can just feel that she is a beautiful person on the inside as well as outside. I was by myself, but her rad husband Trevor took the picture for me. I said, “He’s your photographer too! He’s your everything, huh?” She giggled and gushed, “He IS my everything!” Isn’t that so sweet?! After meeting her and chatting with her for a solid 5 minutes, I have even more respect and admiration for her than I had prior!

After meeting Cherry, I made my way over to the bleachers to wait for Imelda May to come on. Just before her, the pinup contest was held on the side stage. It was so cute! All of the ladies were great.

20140426-211207.jpg

After that, it was Imelda May time! I managed to nab a few clips of her performance which I posted below:

She was amazing! She is one of the few who sounds exactly the same live as she does on her albums. Perfection!

Oh, and did I mention the marriage proposal in the middle of the show?

20140426-212152.jpg

It was beyond sweet 🙂

And the cars! Oh my 😀

After Imelda May, I went back to the hotel for a quick relax and chat with the hubby, and then I went on my merry way back to the hotel to see the Jive Aces! They are an amazing British jive/swing band infused with just the right amount of rock n’ roll. If you haven’t checked them out yet, what are you waiting for?!

Here is a montage of their performance:

After the show, I just had to nab myself a Jive Aces shirt (but you knew that already, huh? 😉 )

My Sunday Viva outfit was this lovely little frock I recently nabbed on eBay:

20140427-004701.jpg

Sunday is always the wind down for Viva, so I relaxed in my hotel room until about 4:30 when I left to see the last Charles Phoenix slideshow 😦 But he was just as amazing as ever! It was Easter, so he got us doughnuts!

Here is Charles with his Test Kitchen rat meatloaf:

20140426-214335.jpg

Imaging eating that?! LOL.

After his awesome slideshow, I grabbed a bite to eat and went to wait in line for burlesque bingo. I went back in 2012 and loved it – I had to at least make one trip back!

20140426-214631.jpg

I walked in and found a seat in the front row to the left side of the stage. And who did I see I sat next to? The one and only Raquel Reed!

20140426-215046.jpg

She was so sweet. She is also from NY/NJ so we bonded over that and talked about how we were away from our men and they didn’t like it 😛 She is an awesome gal whom I hope to see perform soon around this neck of the woods!

Burlesque Bingo was put on and hosted by the awesome Audrey DeLuxe.

20140426-220435.jpg

The first performer was the amazing Bettina May!

20140426-220715.jpg

There were so many other great performers like Ms. Redd, Cleo Viper, Tara Misoux, Frankie Sin, and more!

That last one is of Tom Ingram doing a split to make good on a bet he made with Audrey DeLuxe. He did a great job! It was hilarious.

Here’s a montage:

After that I went to the vendor room again one last time, when they have massive sales to unload stock so they won’t have to cart it home. I bought one last thing: a pack of Rockin’ Rollers!

20140426-223522.jpg

I can’t wait to try them! I will give it a go and report back on how it went 🙂

The next day (morning), I woke up at 3:30 AM and made my way back home. Eight hours and a layover later, I was back in NY Town.

20140426-224137.jpg

It was over 😦 But I had an amazing time. And I can’t wait for next year!

Pop Up Post – 09 August

I decided to up my frequency of posting by offering “Pop Up Posts” – short posts of more pictures than words or just a thought or two to offer my readers as a niblet between posts. Sound good? Let’s go!

20130809-195138.jpg

This is a page from a magazine that my boyfriend’s mom left for me when I arrived earlier today. As you can tell, she knows me so well already! 😉 I thought it was really nice of her to think of me and make the effort like that – I may have to buy her a little Audrey Hepburn giftie soon!

The clothes are totally ’30s and totally to die for. Take a look-see:

Aren’t these outfits to die for?! They need a little better accessory styling on some, but all in all, a total win! I’m not hard to guess what I’d like, huh? 😛

New (Old) Wardrobe!

Sorry I have been MIA for a while – school has been absolutely insane lately, and tests galore. I also had duty last weekend, as well as being caught up with the recent events in Boston as some friends of mine are in the Boston and Cambridge PD. But all is well now, and I feel happy that things turned out the way that they did, both in general and for my friends, that I felt motivated to post something new for all of you!

Over the past few weeks, I have been on an epic spending spree. I just felt like I needed some things to fill in “holes” in my wardrobe (we all have them), and I ended up picking up some other things on the side as collateral damage. I feel like I have a whole new spring and summer wardrobe! I got a few new dresses, but I really upped my game in the separates department. I have a closet of nearly 40 dresses, but not too many separates. I will always prefer a dress to anything else, but one cannot deny the need for a good top or blouse and that perfect pair of pants.

20130422-131604.jpg

These are my pants from the UK – two pairs of Freddie’s and one pair of 1940s swing trousers from Vivien of Holloway. Amazing companies with great products! Their prices may seem a little steep at first, but trust me when I say that you are really buying top notch, quality items. These are pieces that will last you for a good many years, and will be vital in your wardrobe. You will wonder what you ever did without them!

20130422-141002.jpg

20130422-141052.jpg

This next bunch are my US bottom separates collection. The Doris Atomic Print skirt is from Pin Up Girl clothing, and I instantly fell in love with the colour as well as the atomic pattern on this. I have a few full circle skirts, but mostly just the basics such as black, grey checkers, and this like. This is certainly a skirt that will make a statement! The high waist pants with the anchor zip are from Sourpuss clothing. I honestly can’t say enough about this company (and no, they are not sponsoring or subsidizing me in any way) – they are very efficient with their shipping, and always have great, high quality items in a wide array of styles and sizes. I go on their site frequently and always find new things I add to my wishlist and plan to purchase soon. Definitely for the rockabilly girl! They are nearby to me, so I applied to model for them – we shall see! The leopard print cigarette pants are from Pin Up Girl, and the anchor button shorts are from Sourpuss as well. The next pair are multi coloured polka dot capris from Bettie Page Clothing. These feel like a regular pair of jean capris with a bit of stretch, but have a cute late 50s/early 60s print on them that is so spunky and fun for the spring and summer. The black pencil skirt is also from Bettie Page, as I needed it since it is a must-have for any vintage or rockabilly girl!

20130422-144307.jpg

Next up – dresses! I will always be a dress girl at heart. I tried to refrain from buying too many dresses, as I already have quite a collection, but I just can’t help myself 😉 The first are from Amy from Wildfell Hall on Etsy. I had modelled the brown dress previously, and instantly feel in love; the other I had just seen and loved the piping detail as well as the colours and pattern this dress offered. So cute and something that you can wear all year round. I also bought this vintage 1950s black “bombshell” flower dress from another seller on Etsy, and it comes with a fabulous matching cover! The next few are from Pin Up Girl Clothing: the red sailor circle dress and the banana tiki twist dress. I must say that PUG has high quality items to offer, and you can just feel it in the item as soon as you take the item out of the bag. I have other opinions on their shipping and customer service…but I will keep my mouth shut on that for now LOL. As you could probably tell by now, I really have a thing for the nautical/sailor look, and I keep finding myself drawn to them and compelled to purchase these style items. Like I said, I try to keep my wardrobe from veering sharply in one direction, but sometimes one can’t help but make a few exceptions for greatness 😉 The others are from Bettie Page Clothing; the boomerang halter top dress, the caramel black polka dot pencil dress, hunter green jumper, and the multi coloured dotted pencil dress. The dresses from Bettie Page are of an amazing quality and fit your womanly curves in just the perfect way. I was determined to get myself some more pieces from Bettie Page, and these do not disappoint!

20130422-133338.jpg

20130422-134614.jpg

20130422-134708.jpg

20130422-135551.jpg

Next category – tops! The peach tank, red Doris top, and “Team Pinup” blue tee are all from PUG. The leopard print halter and cherry print v-neck top are from Sourpuss. I realized I needed more cherry print in my wardrobe and that shirt from Pinky Pinups brand was just the ticket! The tops that are printed are all from Lucky 13 – I love their shirts, so badass and awesome! The others that are not printed (minus the black with the birds on it) are all from ModCloth. I had an issue with an order, and they immediately sent out my actual order and gave me 10% off my next order with free two day shipping. Customer service at its best! The tattoo halter top is from a seller on eBay, and it is made by Heartbreaker. I love halter tops, since they make your boobs look amazing and make your waist appear smaller. The flash of your back isn’t pornographic, but there is just something so sexy about it 🙂

20130422-131655.jpg

Next are the mentionable unmentionables! I am a hardcore Rago fan, and as such, I had to get more items from them for a wide variety of circumstances. The first I bought from PUG, but is a Rago full body firm shaper, and will go well under any dress or tighter items. It will just streamline your body shape and emphasize those womanly curves! I also bought a beige extra firm waist cincher, as well as a mocha lace firm waist cincher. It’s always good to have options, n’est-ce pas? The bullet bra I actually bought on Amazon believe it or not, and it was only $12. Janey from the Atomic Redhead had recommended it for a traditional ’40s silhouette (slight bullet, but not super pointy like the ’50s). The black and nude lace lingerie set you see is from Dollhouse Bettie. SUPER sexy and only $48!

20130422-142159.jpg

20130422-142239.jpg

20130422-145733.jpg

Shoes are next up on the list. I didn’t have a wide range of shoes, but I certainly changed that! The first group are from Iron Fist – I love almost every design from them I see! The white flats are from eBay, and the carved tiki heels are from Pinup Couture. I loved them, and they go perfectly with a few of the dresses I have! The tie up wedges are from Bettie Page (NOT the clothing company), and those amazing saddle shoes are from a seller on eBay. I just had to grab myself a pair! They are super comfortable and you can just see that these are a quality pair – not costume-y at all 🙂 The wingtip flats are also from a seller on eBay. So I think I’ve upped my shoe collection, yes? 😉

20130422-130910.jpg

20130422-131046.jpg

20130422-132232.jpg

20130422-132501.jpg

Last but not least are the assorted odds and ends. The root beer Bakelite bracelet is from eBay, while the cherry dice necklace is from Aloha Lounge Designs on Etsy. The “Loose Lips” necklace is from PUG. And I simply adore this pocket watch necklace from ModCloth – it works and just has a great vintage look to it that will go swimmingly with a wide variety of outfits. The cigarette holder is from Etsy as well, from a woman in my old hometown of Las Vegas! It is true vintage, with some added crystals for additional style and glamour. I feel so classy when I smoke now! I know it’s bad for you, but hey – I might as well look like a classy broad if I’m going to do it, right? 😛 I also managed to nab myself one of the last few Bésame Masterliner Lip Pencils, as they seem to have discontinued it for god knows what reason. These liners were fab an I was heartbroken to see it wasn’t available any longer! So I turned to the trusty eBay and found a pencil with pink and rose. I had the cerise and red colours, but I just can’t find it anywhere at all. The pink/rose colours are similar and should work fine with my red lipsticks. I also nabbed myself my first issue of Pinup America! It is the issue with Bernie & Levi Dexter from Jan/Fed 2013. It is awesome so far, and this girl may need to subscribe soon! And check out that black vintage Olga nightgown – super sexy and with a 170″ sweep – so glamourous! I just happened upon it after the auction ended, when the seller gave me a second chance offer since the original buyer never paid. These normally go for about $50 – the bigger the sweep, the more it brings. But my second chance offer was only $25! Quite a deal if I say so myself 🙂 I also nabbed myself a pocketwatch necklace (that yes, actually works) from ModCloth that has a true Art Deco flair! And that lovely mint sparkle handbag is one of two Lux de Ville purses I managed to get my hands on. My friend Yvette, the owner of Lux, is super awesome and simply just makes the most divine bags, does she not?!

I am still waiting on some more things, like a baby blue vintage Lurex top from the 1950s and an awesome 1960s political donkey belt (since I am a raging Democrat and involved in politics, I HAD to have it!), as well as some Bakelite earrings, Bomber Betty Brow Wow, black espadrilles, head scarves, and another order from Sourpuss…but I think I shall leave that for another day, oui? 🙂

So, what do all of you think of my new purchases? Are there any that appeal in particular to you all? Any new purchases you have made that you would like to share? I hope you all enjoyed my show and tell!

Outfit of the Day: 01 March

20130301-190507.jpg

Today was yet another school day, but I just had a lab. Nonetheless, I was in a good mood because I had gotten a 91 on a recent exam this week, so I wanted to look good to match 🙂

This dress is from Pinup Girl Clothing, and is my first acquisition from the clothing line. I say acquisition because I also bought this dress from the “Oh La La!” Vintage Swap & Sell Facebook group. It is a fabulous group to find all sorts of great vintage and pinup/rockabilly items being sold from individuals usually for a great price. This dress usually retails for over $125, but I got it from a great gal in the group for only $65! And yes, it is authentic 😉 The PUG brand is Deadly Dames.

This dress has a great v neck cut that is low and super sexy. It also emphasizes your bust while offering more support and making your waist look tiny. The skirt is full, and you could even wear a crinoline very easily with this dress. I didn’t because I felt like I would look too over the top, and I like to just look regularly over the top heheh.

This dress fits me like a glove, and is very comfortable. The slight bit if spandex helps to fit your curves perfectly 🙂 But my favorite part if the dress? The pattern!

It has whips and Bettie Page looking gals on it, as well as corsets, bullet bras, and even a girl with a gag in her mouth! I thought it was too awesome – it just screams bad girl and femme fatale sexpot. Definitely a unique print and one you won’t find anywhere else!

As you can see I also wore my red and black wig again. I felt like it matched the dress perfectly, and also offered another ‘sexy’ factour with the dress. I was certainly the dame of my class today! 😉
