VIVA! Part One

Hi dolls! I apologize for the lack of posting recently, but my health has been at the forefront or things and I am now slated to have another shoulder surgery this Friday – this time on the opposite shoulder. I have a torn labrum and a fracture of the humeral head (the part of your upper arm bone that goes into your shoulder). So, I am going in for my sixth time getting cut open. Hence the radio silence! But I wanted to make a few posts whilst I still had both my arms and hands available to do so 😉

Although it has been several months, I have quite a stockpile of great photos and videos from Viva that I am sure no one will mind seeing or re-visiting if you had the wonderful opportunity to attend. This was the last Viva held on Easter weekend – hereafter, Viva will be held near Easter weekend, but not directly during it. I am sure that means numbers of those attending will skyrocket!

One of my first stops was the Charles Phoenix show. Ever since I randomly decided to attend his show last year, I loved it and had to go back. It’s always pretty packed in the showroom because many others think so too! He was his usual zany self, in his crazy wardrobe, with his awesome shots.

Check out a little video I took below of his show:

Next up was the Burlesque Showcase, one of my favorites to attend at Viva.

First was Audrey Deluxe, the organizer of all of the burlesque events at Viva. She always has such cute routines!

IMG_0152

Tara MiSioux was next up, and she is one of my favorites. She always has classy, vintage-styled routines set to jazz-y music.

IMG_0192

Kitten & Lou were next, and they had such a cute and kitschy routine!

One of my absolute favorites, Roxi D’Lite, was up next. She has such amazing dancing and acrobatic skills, and she is gorgeous!

IMG_0226

The fabulous Ms. Perle Noire followed Roxi. She is known for her energy and spunk and did not disappoint in that!

One of the last acts was one that I had anticipated the most, as I am an avid follower of Lou Lou D’Vil on Instagram and Facebook and I think she is super talented (not to mention beyond beautiful!). She is from Finland and her acts are always fierce and on point!

Warning: NSFW Content (pastie falls off)

“But what did you wear?!” You ask? Well…

During the day I wore an amazingly detailed vintage Mexican-style dress from the 1950s, complete with beautiful embroidery and gorgeous lace inlays. Very light and flowy! At night I wore the Tatyana Gold Digger dress, one of my favourite “night out” dresses for sure. Just look at it – it screams “vintage glam”!
Stay tuned for the next Viva post, along with my excursion to California for some Old Hollywood quality time!

Vintage Family Photos

Recently I have gotten more into viewing old family photos from the 1920s through the 1960s since buying Charles Phoenix’s Americana the Beautiful (I highly recommend!). I recently did a web search lately to see what was out there, and boy oh boy – did I find some real gems!

Some are cute, others are fashionable, and some are just downright scary. But all have that great vintage flair!

20140428-181513.jpg

How cute is this family? So typically “perfect”. Except for the daughter maybe – she’s perhaps a little demonic looking. But still cute!

20140428-182229.jpg

I love the maternity wear from the midcentury. I know I would certainly have that be the majority of my wardrobe if and when I am pregnant! And the guy looks like such a badass rockabilly dude – just look at the tee with the rolled sleeves!

20140428-182321.jpg

I would like each one of those women’s dresses, kthxbye.

20140428-182359.jpg

I love how “every family” this is. This looks like it would be used as an advert for cereal or oatmeal of some sort. So cute!

20140428-182949.jpg

Is that kid a hybrid of an Elizabeth Taylor look-alike and a stormtrooper knockoff?

20140428-183120.jpg

This is such a sweet picture. You don’t really see too many like this anymore, do you? I love the happiness just radiating from their faces whilst they enjoy the event that they are attending. And I will take that dress as well. And that waist too while we’re at it.

20140428-183315.jpg

DAMN IT FEELS GOOD TO BE A GANGSTA.

20140428-183348.jpg

I apologize for the small size of this. I thought it was too cute/funny not to share. Cute because of the new parents beaming from ear to ear with their new bundle of joy; funny because that kid legit looks like he saw something completely horrifying.

20140428-183538.jpg

Cute photo of a family enjoying their new-fangled television set. I wonder if they had to get glasses from sitting that close all the time?

Oh and I’ll take that skirt too. Add it to my tab.

20140428-183740.jpg

This girl just oozes style in how she wears her essentially basic but well put together ensemble. And those gams!

20140428-185638.jpg

This photo is awesome. I want this framed. The kid is legit peeing, the father has his hand to his head in a “WTF” type manner, and the mother and other child are just like, “Who cares, we are taking this bloody picture!” So much win in one shot.

20140428-185822.jpg

This is quite the dapper group, huh? Why don’t people dress like this anymore?

20140428-185921.jpg

“Excuse me, I mustache you a question…”

I’m sorry. I had to.

20140428-190015.jpg

Just a typical day on Main Street. I’m sure this was a scene you would see played out most weekends in towns all across America.

20140428-190116.jpg

I loved this canned trailer! I wanted one for years now 🙂 This was taken in Iowa in 1958.

20140428-190205.jpg

This is another trailer shot from the 1940s. Imagine going camping and having a road trip in that?! I would love every single second of it 🙂

20140428-190306.jpg

Am I the only one who thinks this dude has an Errol Flynn vibe going on? Anyone else?

20140428-190402.jpg

Is this the same kid as before? What does he keep seeing that terrifies him? Does he see demons or something? Seriously, I want to know why these kids are freaked the hell out.

20140428-190749.jpg

This woman’s style is rad. This woman has to be from NJ, because that hair has such a huge pouf to it! And that skirt – I will take one of those. What’s my total? Charge it? 😉

The Wedding Celebration (Afterparty?)

This past Sunday we held a huge shindig at a great restaurant my husband’s brother works at called E.B. Elliot’s. It’s here on Long Island at the Nautical Mile, a great place near the water to go out and have a great time at.

Nearly all of Alex’s family and friends were there, as well as my sister, mom, and my bestest gal Jodie with her son RJ. Of course she gifted me some amazing shots to remember for the rest of our lives.

Here are a few that I wanted to share!

We had a fabulous time and we are so glad that everyone came. I feel really blessed to be a part of such a great and loving family. After the horrors my mom and I went through with my father’s family, I feel like I could not be part of a better family that is so welcoming and supportive. I can happily say that I look forward and certainly do not dread spending time with my in-laws 🙂

BIG NEWS! – Our wedding was featured in a New York Times article! We had our ceremony recorded and made into a little video that goes along with a blurb about us in the article. It is very surreal to see ourselves on a big name journalistic medium such as the Times – something to keep forever for sure!

Christmas, Vintage Style

I know I haven’t been around much, I’ve had a lot going on and a lot of personal circumstances getting in the way. I have been thinking a lot of coming back and what to write about, but never having the opportunity to do so. But here I am!

In the spirit of the season, I have decided to post some good old vintage Christmas pictures! Some are from NYC, some from elsewhere – but all in Christmas cheer!

Sometimes I very much wish I could transport myself back to these days shown in the photographs and really and truly enjoy the Christmases of old. I have always felt more at home in a vintage dress, watching a vintage film, listening to vintage music, or being in a vintage car or building. Why not a vintage Christmas as well?! 🙂

How is everyone planning to spend their holiday?

Pop Up Post – 09 August

I decided to up my frequency of posting by offering “Pop Up Posts” – short posts of more pictures than words or just a thought or two to offer my readers as a niblet between posts. Sound good? Let’s go!

20130809-195138.jpg

This is a page from a magazine that my boyfriend’s mom left for me when I arrived earlier today. As you can tell, she knows me so well already! 😉 I thought it was really nice of her to think of me and make the effort like that – I may have to buy her a little Audrey Hepburn giftie soon!

The clothes are totally ’30s and totally to die for. Take a look-see:

Aren’t these outfits to die for?! They need a little better accessory styling on some, but all in all, a total win! I’m not hard to guess what I’d like, huh? 😛

Vine is Just So Divine!

20130327-140947.jpg

I have found just about the coolest app on app-dom – Vine. It allows you to take moving slide shows for all to see! I have a feeling I will be playing around with this app way more than Instagram now. Vine is like Instagram on speed! LOL.

My username is RockSteadyUSMC. Follow me and I will be sure to make some cool shows for you! The app is free on the App Store for Apple products, and I am assuming for Android as well. Try it out ad see what you think! I have already followed some kickass people such as Cherry Dollface, Dita Von Teese, and others. It’s well worth at least a look! I am sure you will find it to be just as kickass as I do 🙂

It’s fun, very easy to use, easy to find your friends, and a great way to share your life. Go ahead – try it out! Look forward to seeing y’all there!

Have Yourself A Very Merry Vintage Christmas

A very merry vintage Christmas to one and all.

I wanted to take this time to share some wonderful vintage shots ranging from the 1920s through the 1960s, as well as some vintage holiday traditions from days gone by. I hope you all enjoy and find these as fun to look at as it was as fun to find.

20121224-142243.jpg

A common Christmas tree you would find back in the 1950s was decked with hand-blown glass ornaments and beaded chains. My Mom also told me about how when she was growing up that her brother and her would put individual strands of foil tinsel on the tree every year. It would take forever, but she recalls the look was absolutely stunning and well worth the effort. Soon after, foil tinsel was labelled as a “fire hazard”, and then they came out with the crappy plastic type that never looked quite as good.

20121224-143104.jpg

20121224-143139.jpg

This was the London Underground around World War II. If they would only do this in NYC!

20121224-143401.jpg

Someone’s always gotta take it literally 😉

20121224-143526.jpg

I’d take Cary Grant for Christmas too!

20121224-143556.jpg

Whomever came up with this as a tree, I want to marry you.

20121224-143721.jpg

How’s that for a retro ‘do, huh?!

Christmas Parade in L.A. during the late 1930s.

Miss Louise Brooks.

20121224-144152.jpg

Loretta Young in quite the Christmas classic! I finally saw all of “The Bishop’s Wife”. I can’t believe Cary Grant was originally cast as being the Bishop – he definitely had great foresight enough to request the change with David Niven!

I’m sure a lot of men would a prefer a Santa of this nature.

Another cute 1940s town decoration.

To be a tree or not to be a tree?

20121224-150153.jpg

20121224-150347.jpg

Imagine being a starlet back then and being forced to do these types of chintzy shoots? I’m sure most of them hated it, but they are pretty cute LOL.

20121224-150647.jpg

That cutie Shirley Temple.

20121224-150740.jpg

The perpetually glamorous Elizabeth Taylor.

20121224-150943.jpg

That cute Brit Diana Dors.

20121224-152024.jpg

Might that be a feather tree? Those were rather popular from the 1920s through the 1960s, and they were the first real alternative tree. They were initially made of feathers, but were soon made of other materials because the feathers proved to be very expensive.

20121224-152953.jpg

What a better way to end the post than with Marilyn!

I hope each and every one of you has an amazing holiday filled with laughter, love, and lingering memories. What will you be doing for the holidays?
